Dental Fillings
Repairing a Damaged Tooth
A filling is used to treat a small hole, or cavity, in a tooth. Fillings also help to relieve discomfort and prevent the problem from becoming more severe.
There are a variety of materials that can be used for this type of dental restoration. Our dentists use composite or porcelain fillings to provide patients with durable, natural-looking restorations.
During your regular checkups, your dentist will check the integrity of your fillings and recommend replacing them if they no longer protect your teeth.
Do I need a dental filling?
Only your dentist can say for certain whether you need a filling, but there are some tell-tale signs, including:
- You notice a black spot or cavity on a tooth
- You experience intense, throbbing tooth pain
- The edges of your tooth are rough
- Your tooth is broken or chipped
- Food gets stuck between some teeth
- You have lost a dental filling and need a replacement
Types of Dental Fillings
Composite filling are made using plastic and ceramic compounds. They can blend in beautifully with your natural teeth and can be used to repair cracked and decayed teeth.
Porcelain fillings are more commonly used for the back teeth. These fillings are used to repair more extensive damage. Porcelain fillings must be custom-made, then cemented in place once decay has been removed and the cavity is cleaned.
